To facilitate the identification of experts and optimise urban-development
experiences, the City of Marseilles, the Infrastructure Ministry, the French
Development Agency and the World Bank have initiated a preparatory work to
pave the way for an international Mediterranean urban-development expertise
entity, the objective of which will be to:
~ identify best practice and select the appropriate experts in the area of
Mediterranean urban development in order to constitute a comprehensive, constantly-updated
database containing details of experts and experiences, enabling a rapid response
to be provided for requests for technical assistance;
~ encourage the development of technical operations by creating links between
the various Mediterranean urban partners;
~ organise training for territorial managers and elected representatives with
the support of operational training institutions in the Middle east and North
Africa.
This preparatory work, which was initiated in November 2005 and is being run
by four people, plays a vital role in the life of the network.
